Riding etiquettes
General safety tips
- Always wear a helmet.
- Avoid making sudden stops.
- If you need to stop, quickly move away from the road. Ideally, stop only after exiting the road or path.
- If you must make a sudden stop, loudly shout "STOPPING" to alert fellow riders.
- Never make sudden left or right moves without warning.
- If approaching an obstacle or a ditch that requires swerving, plan ahead and shout "RIGHT" or "LEFT" loudly to alert others.
Overtaking
- Always overtake from the right side.
- On narrow roads or when overtaking with limited space, overtake swiftly.
- While overtaking, shout "TO YOUR RIGHT" to let the slower rider know you’re passing on the right side.
Group riding etiquette
- Do not occupy the full width of the lane.
- Never ride on the opposite (right) side of the road.
- On an empty and secluded road, you may ride in pairs, but never ride more than two side by side.
- The safest option is to ride in a single file.
Turning at corners
- Maintain your line while turning.
- Avoid making wide turns that could risk colliding with the rider to your left. This is especially dangerous when overtaking.
- Don’t make unnecessary or sharp reductions in speed while turning.
- When approaching a turn, either speed up to create distance from the rider behind you or slow down (smoothly, without sudden braking) to ensure they remain visible and prevent a collision.
Riding position
- Always maintain a safe distance from fellow riders.
- Ride either in front of or behind other riders.
- Do not ride directly behind another rider with overlapping wheels.
- The rider behind is responsible for adjusting speed (slowing down or speeding up) to avoid overlapping wheels and ensure safety.
